More than 150 volunteers gathered on Saturday morning to spruce up Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2082 on Lemon Grove Avenue. Rebuilding Together San Diego, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the renovation and preservation of affordable housing for low-income homeowners, enlisted volunteers to do carpentry work, painting, gardening and cleaning from 9 a.m. to noon.

Rebuilding Together San Diego partnered with Booz Allen Hamilton, a strategy and management consulting firm, to revamp VFW Post 2082 as part of a string of nine projects in the area.

“We came up with a list of 10 projects we wanted to accomplish including the mural on the outside of the building,” said Curtis Sims of Booz Allen Hamilton. “It kind of brightens up the neighborhood a little bit.”

The volunteers also painted the rest of the building and the interior and performed outside beautification work including planters. In addition, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is currently rewiring the main hall to ensure dances, parties and other events go off without a hitch.

RTSD is a great oprginization, they actually had seven different projects going on that day. It's amazing to see what they do for people and communities. They even fixed up Azalea Park!
