Signed Books, Dog Impound Fee Raised, and Relay for Life Total

Here are the five things you need to know today, Aug. 14, in Lemon Grove.

1. Autographed by the Author: Signed books will be up for sale at the Friends of the Library book store from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Prices range from $5-$25. Cash only! 

2. Attention, Collectors: Two charming punch bowl sets are for sale at just $15 each. Do you have something you want to buy/sell/trade? Post it on our board!

3. Quirky Day Alert: Wednesday is Creamsicle Day. That is all.

4. In the Dog House: Lemon Grove is increasing the impound fee for dogs found "at large." According to the city's newsletter, about 225 dogs are impounded each year in Lemon Grove. Fees vary from $50 to $300 for first, second and third offenders, and whether the dog is altered. The impound fee was last adjusted 10 years ago.

5. Number of the Day: $33,937.80. That's how much the 231 members of 28 teams raised in donations during this year's Relay for Life. In all, Lemon Grove has raised more that $260,000 for cancer research, advocacy and patient services since becoming a participant in the annual fundraiser.
