A Community Celebration at the Lemon Grove Branch LIbrary

In honor of Black History Month, the library will host a gospel performance by the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir and other events today.

A celebration of Black History Month will take place Wednesday at the with a variety of community events being offered, including a performance by the multigenerational Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir.

The afternoon’s activities will start off at 3 p.m. with a program called Skinfolk, which focuses on organic and indigenous treatments for hair and skin. At 5 p.m., the Buffalo Soldiers 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association Chapter of San Diego is scheduled to perform a historic re-enactment about Cathay Williams, a woman who disguised herself as a man to join the Buffalo Soldiers during the Civil War.

The celebration will culminate with an inspirational gospel performance by the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir starting at 6 p.m.
