Golden Avenue Elementary Gives Families Lots of Fall Fun

Celebrate Halloween two days early at the school's annual festival.

Halloween may not be until Monday, but in Lemon Grove, a school’s annual festival is letting families celebrate the spooky holiday this weekend.

Golden Avenue Elementary’s is Saturday and the family-friendly fun is chock-full of activities to satisfy kids with a Halloween hankering. The festival, which is put on by the school’s staff, volunteers, PTA members and SDSU students, is not a fundraiser, but rather a fun fall outing that families and the community can enjoy.

Among the many activities are a petting zoo, face painting, various carnival games, a school jail and even science experiments provided by SDSU School of Education students. Students looking to get a little revenge on their favorite teacher can take their shot at the dunk tank. Each class at the school will have their own booth set up at the fair and parents are encouraged to volunteer some time at their children’s booths from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For the first time ever at the annual festival, there will be a performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance. Golden Avenue students will be performing the routine for everyone to enjoy. And instead of the traditional cake walk, there will be a prize walk (because we consume enough calories on Halloween night!)

Each game at the fair will cost just one ticket, with tickets priced at just 25 cents each. Families who have paid their PTA membership will receive $2 worth of tickets for free. A light lunch, consisting of pizza, salad and water, will be available for $2.50. If you’d like to purchase a Golden Avenue T-shirt, they will be on sale for $10 at the fall festival.
