Good Job, Youth!

A car wash on Saturday at Lemon Grove Lutheran Church raised money for youth group activities.

The Patchmobile was looking pretty grim when we rolled up on the youth car wash being held Saturday morning in the parking lot at Lemon Grove Lutheran Church. Weeks of road dirt and accumulated grime had left their dirty mark from stem to stern.

But as a team of energetic kids and teens went to work cheerfully scrubbing and rinsing under the direction of Pastor Ula Tausaga, of the Samoa Independent Full Gospel Church, and Paul Fine, of the Lutheran church, the Patchmobile was quickly restored to glory. Or, at least as close to glory as a 15-year-old Camry can get.

The event on Saturday, which went from 8 a.m. to noon, was held to raise money to support activities for the youth groups of both churches, which share a partnership. Car washes were offered on a donation basis, so participants got to name their own price.

By 11:30 a.m. about 50 cars had been washed, according to Tausaga. A total on how much money was raised was not available.

Besides its youth ministry, the churches also sponsor with a weekly free dinner, called ,  a community food pantry, and twice monthly food distributions that gives groceries to hundreds of people in need.
