Lend a Hand: Harvest CROPs Needs Volunteers to Pick Grapes Saturday

Giving a couple of hours of your time will help feed low-income families and seniors.

A Lemon Grove-based nonprofit group that picks excess fruit from backyard gardens needs some helping hands this weekend to harvest grapes.

Harvest CROPS (Community Residents Offering Produce Seasonally) sent out an email request Tuesday asking for 10 volunteers to spare just a couple of hours Saturday morning gathering the fruit at a nearby site.

Have some time to do good in the community? Contact the group's organizer, Sergio Padilla, and let him know you'll pitch in. Then meet up at 9 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. The group will leave together, and return before noon.

It's that easy.

Harvest CROPS volunteers go to homes all over San Diego County to bring in fruit that would otherwise go unpicked, abandoned and wasted. The group distributes the food to hungry families and seniors in communities throughout the county.

Do you have trees that produce more than you can use? Give Harvest CROPS permission to pick them. Rather give some green? Donations are also welcome.

To get involved, send email to info@harvestcrops.org, or call Padilla at 619-318-3423.
