O Christmas Tree: How to Recycle Your Holiday Greenery

Put trees in Go Green containers for Edco pickup, or recycle at the drop-off site on Central Avenue.

We don’t get a white Christmas in Lemon Grove, but we do get a green holiday by recycling.

Now that we’ve enjoyed the merry and bright, it’s time to gather up the boughs of holly, spruce garlands, Douglas fir trees and any other organic décor, and make sure it all gets recycled.

When it's time to put away the ornaments, remember that recycling your Yuletide tree is as easy as putting it in your Go Green container or dropping it off at a recycling site.

To prepare a Christmas tree for recycling, residents of single-family homes need to cut the tree into 4-foot sections that will fit inside the Go Green can with its lid closed. Be sure to remove all ornaments, tinsel and nails, as well as the tree stand. Flocked trees are accepted for recycling, as are organic garlands, wreaths and wood that is not pressure-treated or painted with lead-based paint. There is also a collection point where residents can drop off their trees at the city lot located at the corner of Central Avenue and Olive Street. Please place trees inside the collection containers.

The collection service and drop-off lot are both offered through Jan. 16.
