Relay for Life: Lemon Grove Teams Together in Fight Against Cancer

Help support research efforts at this annual event going on now at Lemon Grove Academy.

Cancer survivors—those who have battled and won, and those who are still in the fight—kicked off the Relay for Life of Lemon Grove by releasing doves during the opening ceremony. With their arms raised in victory, doves flew from their hands into the perfectly blue sky.

The 24-hour fundraiser features 27 teams and more than 200 participants. Teams have raised an estimated $22,800 this year, and more than $200,000 for cancer research since being started locally. Teams walk laps around the track at Lemon Grove Academy from 9 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

Relay for Life offers food, games, crafts and entertainment. Donations benefit the American Cancer Society.

The highlight of the event is the luminaria lighting ceremony starting at 8:45 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

Relay for Life is held on the field at Lemon Grove Academy Middle School. Enter at School Lane.
