The Good Family Legacy in Lemon Grove and East County

Descendants of Lemon Grove's historic Good family were honored with a reception at the Parsonage Museum.

A reception for “The Good Family Legacy in Lemon Grove and East County” was held at the Parsonage Museum last week to honor the family who helped make the historical society's current exhibit possible.

Along with Helen Ofield, president of the Lemon Grove Historical Society, and  society members, descendants of Dr. Charles Good greeted guests like old friends and welcomed those who came to celebrate. Robert Arden Dunton—Good's grandson—and Peggy Dunton traveled with son, Jaime, from Santa Rosa, CA, for the event.

The Duntons provided all the historic photographs and print materials featured in the Good exhibit.

Good, a dentist, rancher and politician, is credited for bringing better roads and bridges to East County during his years in public office. He served as the 2nd District's supervisor from 1914 to 1926—an office now held by Dianne Jacob, who also attended the reception. Good also had a 10-acre lemon ranch at Central and Buena Vista avenues, and owned Lemon Grove's original general store, which is now the Grove Pastry Shop.

Ofield, who constructed the exhibit with Lemon Grove photographer and historian Pete Smith, decided to do an exhibit on Good when they learned of the multitude of materials—photos, books, certificates—available from Dunton.

Following the reception, the honored guests were further feted with a catered dinner at the historic H. Lee House.
