Need to give a presentation at work? How about a speech at your best friend's wedding? Lemon Grove residents worry not, Toastmasters is here!
Toastmasters is an international program dedicated to helping you become a better speaker, communicator and leader. According to its website, Toastmasters International boasts 270,000 memberships and 13,000 clubs that make up its global network of meeting locations.
Newly added to that list of 13,000 clubs? Lemon Grove's own . The new group will have its first meeting on June 22 at Monte Vista Villages auditorium.
“There are no clubs, either advanced or beginners, in the Lemon Grove area,” said group sponsor Hettie Allsup. “[Jerry Dixon and I] are toastmasters and we decided we'd like to share with the people in Lemon Grove.”
The group will meet up each week for an hour and practice public speaking with both prepared speeches and impromptu ones. The group is a great way to combine community with success.
“A lot of people don't realize that public speaking is just talking to your neighbor, or groups of friends or in a meeting,” Allsup said. “Every Toastmaster meeting enforces how to run a really organized meeting... and we try to eliminate all of those 'crutch-word fillers,' like 'uh.'”
Lemon-Aide Toastmasters plans to meet each week on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. at Monte Vista Village. One week out of the month will be held at a restaurant. If you're looking for ways to advance your career, improve communications in all facets of your life and take the road to success, join the local Toastmasters club and get comfortable with speaking!
Interested in attending the initial meeting on June 22? No RSVP is needed, just show up and bring your checkbooks or cash for dues and the start-up fee.
