What is Labor Day? And How Did You Observe the Day?

Share your Labor Day celebration photos with Oceanside, Camp Pendleton Patch. And learn a little about the holiday in the process.

There may be no better year to celebrate Labor Day than this one given the challenges faced by employers and the work force.

But what is Labor Day? It is “a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country, according to the United States Department of Labor that has dedicated a site to the holiday.

The department credits Peter J. McGuire and Peter McGuire as founders of the holiday. Although there seems to be some debate as to which one of them actually founded the holiday back in the late 1800’s.
