San Diego County Students Team with AT&T Employees to Learn Skills for Future Success

Aspire Mentoring Academy Hosts Local Students for “Day in the Life of an AT&T Employee” Mentoring Event

Investing time to help teens develop skills for future success can be a gift that lasts a lifetime. That’s why AT&T employees teamed up with local educators yesterday to mentor 21 high school students on topics such as decision making, financial literacy, communication skills and career planning at the Trade Street AT&T campus.

“We are honored to work with the wonderful educators and community leaders who dedicate their lives to shaping the next generation each and every day,” said Randal Okamura, director for AT&T external affairs. “Aspire Mentoring Academy provides an opportunity for employees to be a memorable influence in a young person’s life – helping them stay on track to graduate from high school and succeed in college, the workforce and beyond.”

The AT&T Aspire Mentoring Program is driven by AT&T employees who are passionate about making a difference. During a regular business workday, employees share life experiences and career advice through project-based activities, complete problem-solving activities in a group setting, and teach students how to manage their digital footprint.  Employees also encourage students to take the pledge not to text while driving through AT&T's It Can Wait movement.

Aspire Mentoring Academy is a part of AT&T Aspire, AT&T’s $350 million investment in education, which is among the most significant U.S. corporate educational initiatives. The program, which has impacted over 1 million students in all 50 states since its initial launch in 2008, drives innovation in education through proven programs that address the high school dropout crisis and taps into the power of personal connections involving many of AT&T’s approximately 240,000 employees.
