Albertsons to Cut Up to 2,500 Jobs at California and Nevada Stores

The company said all stores will be affected; Lemon Grove has one Albertsons.

The corporate owner of Albertsons said Wednesday that it will eliminate up to 2,500 jobs at the supermarket chain, which has one store in Lemon Grove.

The company, Supervalu Inc., said the jobs will be trimmed from all 247 Albertsons stores in California and Nevada, beginning June 17.

Supervalu attributed the decision to “simplifying its organization and reducing expenses to help reinvest in” initiatives for customers.

In a statement, Dan Sanders, president of Albertsons Southern California Division, said:

“A decision of this nature is never easy, but it is the necessary step for us to take to help improve our business and accelerate our turnaround. Our goal is to more effectively serve the marketplace by scheduling associates more appropriately to serve customers at the times they shop. I am confident our team will embrace these changes and help us to compete more effectively in a rapidly changing marketplace.”

The decision follows cuts four months ago that led to a reduction in staff at Albertsons' Fullerton store support center.

Last year, Albertsons and other grocery stores went to the wire . Workers were prepared to strike over health insurance costs.

Nice if you can actually pass such a bill but we are dealing with politicians who cherish the powerRead More they have attained rising to the top. In actuality this has "A Snowballs Chance In Hell" of passing, but kudos for the effort.
