Consumer Alert: Some Honda Fits Recalled Because of Fire Fears

The recall of the 2007-08 Honda Fit is for power window switches that might cause fires. The company asks motorists to park the cars outside until they are inspected.

Car giant Honda is advising owners of Honda Fits from 2007-08 that defective power windows could cause fires so the vehicles should be parked outside until repaired.

The recall notice was issued Friday, according to the Associated Press via MSN.com, and applies to 143,000 of the Fit models driven in the U.S.

The problem is caused by water getting into the window panels, a development that could damage the power switches and lead to a fire.

The company said no injuries have been reported, but two fires have resulted from the defect.

Honda already recalled the Fit for the problem three years but officials said they didn't get a good enough response to the effort.

If you have a 2007-08 Honda Fit, you are asked to go to the dealer for inspection and repairs, which may be delayed while a sufficient number of new parts are obtained, according to the AP report.
