Goodwill Store Opening in Lemon Grove Draws Crowd
The store and donation center at 7875 Broadway opened April 11.
A line around the business the day it opens typically signals community excitement. And that is just what Goodwill Industries found when they opened their Lemon Grove store April 11.
The line snaked around the building, as lovers of the gently used turned out to celebrate the retail store and donation center at 7875 Broadway.
“We’ve had nothing but positive comments from development right up until the opening,” said Sharon Corrigan, director of communications for Goodwill Industries of San Diego County. “All of our openings, no matter where we go, always attract a crowd on the first weekend.”

From the opening on April 11 to closing time on April 14, the store had 2,003 individual transactions, Corrigan said.
Besides selling clothing and household items, the 5,200-square foot store includes a donations center at the rear of the building where the public can bring clean, reusable items during business hours.

Corrigan said Goodwill renovated the interior of the Lemon Grove store to give it a modern look, something that is standard when the nonprofit moves into a location.
“Goodwill Industries made a significant investment in this new store, which resembles a department store more than your ‘grandmother's’ thrift shop,” Corrigan said in a news release. “This location created approximately 30 new jobs in the community, and we are thrilled to join the neighborhood.”
Goodwill Industries has been busy of late with openings. The month before the Lemon Grove store opened its doors, Goodwill launched a bookstore in Del Cerro in the Windmills center. Other openings in the works include a planned retail store in Alpine, a storefront donation center in Santee to compliment an existing store, and a boutique in La Jolla.
Goodwill also has existing stores in Rancho San Diego, La Mesa, and Citrus Heights.
