Neighborhood Observations: A Wanderer's Perspective

Photographic and written observations of Lemon Grove, gathered by examining the details of our neighborhoods.

Starbucks and Park by the Trolley Station

I wake up and hear the soothing clicking and ringing of the trolley tracks, lulling me to consciousness. The sound conjures up images of the breaking day about to begin; skateboarders, single mothers, transients, day laborers, and business men and women—beginning their days journey crossing the trolley tracks; waiting to get going.

Groups of rowdy, obnoxious, dangerous and beautiful kids, wandering the streets. They congregate outside of the Starbucks, rapping, smoking, screaming profanities. I can’t help but smile though, watching them at Starbucks on the corner of Broadway and Lemon Grove Ave. I’ve seen stranger things. These kids, or juveniles some would call, are so bright and sharp. I hope their flames don’t burn out. I hope to god their flames don't burn out.

There is a summer storm today, the dark clouds contradict the unforgiving heat. Yet everyone is still out; walking, talking, drinking, laughing. Walking by the police station, everything is calm and subdued but with a hint of electricity in the air; the storms brewing.
