Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day

And (nearly) every bar is an Irish pub.

Although St. Patrick’s Day is affectionately known to bar/restaurant industry insiders as “amateur night,” it’s also a darn good reason to wear that usually-forgotten Kelly green shirt and try out your best Irish accent (hint: go Colin Farrell, not Lucky Charms).  Even if you’re not remotely Irish, you can join in the holiday spirit at one of the following local venues.

Of course, notable Irish pub Hooley’s is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in style with Hooleyfest, running from 5 p.m. to midnight, and featuring live music, lots of green, and even safe shuttle rides home—within a 5-mile radius.

Traditionally, St. Patrick’s Day has nothing to do with sports (although some people tend to drink competitively during the holiday), but nevertheless, Sportsman’s Pub is proudly celebrating with corned beef and cabbage, and drink specials.

After partaking in a very Irish pub-ish game of darts, enjoy Dirk’s drink specials along with a scrumptious dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots.

Not be excluded from the corned beef and cabbage club, Good Guys Tavern will also serve the ubiquitous holiday meal, along with drink specials, such as 20-ounce Killian’s Irish Red for only $4.

  • A Dash of Authenticity

Sure, surrounding yourself with pint after pint of green beer and bar patrons with terribly fake Irish accents isn’t the most authentic way to celebrate the holiday, even though it’s tons of fun.  If you want to bring a dash of authenticity to your chosen St. Patrick’s Day event, prepare yourself with a list of Irish quotes (“Never iron a four-leaf clover, because you don’t want to press your luck.”) and Irish toasts (“Here’s to being single...Drinking doubles...And seeing triple!”), which should score you at least one free drink at the pub.
