Lemon Grove Patch Wins Society of Professional Journalists Award

Helen Ofield takes second place for column writing.

A Patch columnist who takes a look back at Lemon Grove each week in The Way We Were has been honored by the San Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Helen Ofield earned second place in the non-daily reporting and writing category for her column “,” published Dec. 26, 2011. The award was given Thursday night at the organization's annual banquet, held this year at the Bali Hai Restaurant in San Diego.

Ofield, president of the Lemon Grove Historical Society, compiles the column each week based on news from archived editions of the Lemon Grove Review. Her warm and witty commentary often reads like a love letter to local history, sometimes expressing that as much as things change, they remain the same.
