Martin Luther King Jr. Day Will Be Celebrated Monday

What you need to know about the holiday; what's open and what's closed.

This year marks the 25th celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day federal holiday in honor of the slain civil rights leader. A number of meetings and services will be affected by the holiday.

All Lemon Grove and Grossmont Union school district campuses and offices will be closed. Grossmont and Cuyamaca community colleges and district offices will also be closed.

The Lemon Grove Post Office branch on Broadway will be closed. There will be no regular mail delivery, but the postal service will deliver express packages only on Monday, for an additional $12.50 fee.

Lemon Grove City Hall, the Lemon Grove Library, and all other county libraries will be closed Monday.

All city of Lemon Grove, county, state and federal offices will also be closed.

County parks, however, will be open, although the Lakeside and Spring Valley community centers will be closed. The county Department of Parks and Recreation reservation phone line will be closed, but customers will still be able to make online reservations.   

Trash collection and pickup for businesses and residences will take place as usual, and essential services, such as law enforcement, will not be affected by the holiday.

The weather outlook for Lemon Grove calls for more warm and sunny days, followed by cool nights:

  • Sunday: Sunny, high near 74º. Night: Mostly clear, low around 53º.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday): Sunny, high near 74º. Night: Mostly clear, low around 52º.
