Update: Hearing is Sept. 26 for 3 Accused in Shooting Death
Suspects face first-degree murder charges in connection with death of Avel Michael Edgar, 23.

Three defendants charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of a Lemon Grove man are due in the El Cajon court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Eugene Lucious Veal, 19, Alfredo Hayes, 19, and Dasaun Romann Roberts, 20, are suspected in a shooting that killed Avel Micheal Edgar, 23, four months ago. Each suspect is charged with one count of first-degree murder. Bail is set at $1 million for each man.

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of gunfire about 9:45 p.m. March 14 found Edgars in a home on the 8200 block of Mt. Vernon Street. Veal and Hayes , and Roberts was a few days later.
Authorities say the incident was a drug robbery gone awry. According to the District Attorney’s office, the victim was fatally wounded while being pistol whipped to hand over a large amount of marijuana locked in a safe.
