Seen at the Fair

There was just enough time to enjoy a few of my favorite things.

I heard some pitches, I ate some fair food, I saw some really cute barnyard animals.

A whirlwind tour of opening day at the San Diego County Fair had me zipping through Bing Crosby Hall for my annual dose of Dixie's Mini Donuts—fresh and hot from the fat, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar—before going in search of the barnyard babies. (By the way, a dozen tiny, delicious doughnuts are just $4.25. It's actually a pretty good deal.)

Revved up on sweets, I high-tailed it over to the AgriFair at Wyland Center building for a quick look at some sheep, goats, cows, and pigs, and an alpaca and llama. In the bird cages I came across several pigeons entered into the small animal competition by Jesse Hernandez of Lemon Grove. Good luck, Jesse!

Before scooting over to the Infield to take my place at the Patch table in the San Diego Pavilion, I stopped to check out a “Citrus in the County” exhibit that mentioned just about every historic citrus growing community except for Lemon Grove. Weird—what's up with that?

Pitch heard most often in the exhibit halls: “The best part about it is, you'll never have to buy (paper towels, motor oil, garlic) again!”

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Patch table today. I hope you enjoy your pens and magnets!
