Spend Less on the Dress!

5 San Diego stores that offer affordable prom dresses.

While we can’t flick a wand and instantly transform you into the belle of the ball, we can help you on your quest to find that perfect gown for the big night out … and help you save money! Here are the top five picks for places to find chic, elegant, flirty, fun and budget-friendly prom dresses (and still have enough left for the accessories!)

  • Macy’s
  • Where to go: Grossmont Center, Parkway Plaza

They may be one of the top mid-to-high range department stores in the country, but that doesn’t stop Macy’s from providing great deals. With a current promotion offering $10 off a $50 purchase, $20 off a $100 purchase, $30 off $150 and $50 off $200, you can save additional money off their already discounted dresses.

An array of detailed styles, such as the short, strapless, purple dress with sweetheart neckline and vertical ruffle on the left side of the skirt, or the long, navy gown with halter straps, v-neckline and woven braided details through the front bodice, can be found here.  For more sparkle, other fun choices include the short, strapless, champagne dress with a gathered satin glitter A-line shape and tulle underlay and the long, coral, strapless pleated empire gown with glitter sprinkled fabric.

David’s Bridal focuses on making every customer feel like a million dollars on their special day, regardless of their budget. With a 50 percent discount on select prom dresses, you can dazzle the crowd in a long, vibrant, strapless, two-toned tulle ball gown with a chiffon bodice and lace up back. If that’s too much fluff, go with a lighter, champagne-colored, one-shoulder taffeta gown with a pick up trumpet skirt. A variety of other long dresses are available with halter and tank bodices and range from $99.50 to $129.50.

  • Nordstrom
  • Where to go: Fashion Valley, Mission Valley

Starting as a shoe store in 1901, Nordstrom is now one of the nation’s leading fashion specialty retailers and certainly doesn’t hold back when it comes to prom.  Radiate a chic, sophisticated look with a short, brilliant blue, keyhole chiffon dress, a strapless berry beaded charmeuse dress, or a navy pleated chiffon dress with a jewel-encrusted Empire waist.

Or, steal glances with longer gowns including the pink, ruched, V-neck dress with a sparkling beaded panel, the teal iridescent chiffon gown with ruched, surplice V-neck and full, fluttering skirt, or the Grecian-inspired, true red gown with a crisscrossed bodice and soft, fluid skirt.

Select styles are now 33-50% off.  Short dresses range from $30 to $160 and long dresses range from $79 to $148.

With the hoop skirt as the first item carried in the store in the late 1800’s, Bloomingdale's has kept up with the most current fashion fads since day one.  A popular style carried this year for prom includes ruffles, which are elegantly displayed on dresses like the short, black and white strapless with an exaggerated sweetheart neckline and also on the navy tiered strapless with diagonal ruffles.

Dresses such as the short, violet, one-shoulder pleated dress as well as the longer, slim-fitting, green satin dress with a pleated bodice and princess neckline, will surely make you look like a stunning natural beauty.

Select short styles are currently up to 50 percent off their original price and range from $51 to $96.
