Local elections are coming up this year. This is my first local election in Lemon Grove. For a city that is supposedly 3.2 square miles and has five council members, do partisan politics really make a difference to me or the community at large when it comes time to vote?
Conventional wisdom would lead us to believe that a candidate would run on a party platform that reflects the ideals of what that individual stands for.
Easy enough.

But when it comes intra-city affairs, does being a Republican candidate mean that roads will be paved? Or does running as a Democrat mean you're going to better represent minorities in the community?
These, of course, are completely fictitious examples, but it begs the question: Would you vote for someone just because of party affiliation? Or would you vote because the candidate represent solutions to more day-to-day issues?
