Join the Lemon Grove Organic Edibles Garden Club!

Lemon Grove Organic Edibles Garden Club is hosting a compost workshop. All you want and need to know to compost a few food scraps or cubic yards of organic material.

Not even a month ago, we had our getting us off to a great start. Since then, we had an evening “meet and greet,” a plant and seed exchange, and a fun-filled workday building a Hugelkultur bed. Membership has grown to a proud 58 and we are ecstatic to announce that we have secured our very first sponsor: Pletcher Family Growers!

Pletcher Family Growers are producers of 100 percent natural worm castings, and have the best prices in San Diego—and for all I know, in the whole world. The best part is that they are right here in Lemon Grove, our beautiful town. You can reach them via email at pfgrowers@cox.net.

If you don't know what worm castings are, or what a wonderful gift they are to your plants, you must come to our second monthly morning meet up. The theme is compost—all you ever wanted to know about it and so much more you had no idea you needed to know, but will be so glad that now, after joining us, you know!

I'll be teaching the class. I'm a Master Composter trained by the Solana Center for Environmental Innovations., and volunteer teaching workshops through the Solana Center. The most recent one was held Saturday at the Spring Valley East Community Center.

My co-teacher is Charles Anacker, a seasoned Master Composter with many volunteer hours under his belt, and a newly minted Master Gardener.

And, I know, I know, some of you are working Monday mornings. Don't worry!

On June 30 our first "meet and greet" weekend meetup is scheduled for a Saturday morning, and a weekend composting class/workshop will be on the calendar soon.

I am looking forward to meeting every single on of you and seeing Lemon Grovers eating yummy organic food out of their own garden everywhere I go in town.
