Apple Stamping Art, Busy Classroom and An Egg

Our Apple Stamping Art was done by cutting an apple in half and using it as a stamp. The children liked that the paper was also shaped like an apple! We will be getting out our apple corer next week to core, peel and slice apples for snack. The children will each make a baked apple with yummy brown sugar and cinnamon. If you have never used an apple corer, you should give it a try. The children love turning the handle and watching the apple move along as it is simultaneously cored, peeled and sliced.

This week has been busy in the classroom! As the older children take on more advanced work, the new and younger children work on classroom rules and receive lots lessons. Here are just a few stories of the many lessons and works that the children have done this week:

After mastering the triangle box and successfully constructing a large, equilateral triangle from the four smaller triangles, a 4 year old started push punching all the triangles on paper. Amazingly she finished this project in just a few days and will be pasting it on paper so it can be laminated and displayed in the classroom. I’ll be sure to add a picture next week of her hard work.

Today was a successful day for another child who chose to spend time practicing pouring in Practical Life. At the start, most all of the shiny red gems he poured spilled onto the tray. His focus never wavered as he continued his pouring until he was able to pour back and forth without spilling any gems! He was very excited and proud of his accomplishment.

A 3 year old received a lesson today with the sound cylinders. By comparing the six cylinders with each other he was able to grade them in order from loudest to softest. After his initial lesson, he chose to continue repeating this work, each time listening intently as he shook each cylinder to find the loudest.

Today was also very exciting for us because our chicken Olivia (a Silver Laced Wyandotte) laid the first egg. Since she is a couple of weeks older than the other chickens we were not surprised that she would have the honor of being the first to lay an egg. However, knowing she would do it “soon” didn’t stop the thrill of finding it! Go Olivia!
