2 Arrests Made at Lemon Grove DUI Checkpoint

Sheriff's deputies made two arrests Friday night during a sobriety checkpoint operation on the 7900 block of Broadway. An additional 11 motorists were cited for license violations, and 13 vehicles were impounded.

The two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The six and a half hour operation was staffed by nine DUI-trained deputies.

According to authorities, 476 vehicles were contacted through the checkpoint from 8 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday, resulting in 54 motorists being directed to a secondary inspection area for evaluation.

Citations were given to 11 drivers found to be driving on suspended or revoked licenses, or without a license, according to Sgt. Michelle McPhail of the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station Traffic Unit.

Funding for this operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
