Apparent Suicide Shuts Down Eastbound 94

A man jumped from the Lemon Grove Avenue overpass onto eastbound state Route 94 in an apparent suicide at about 5:49 p.m. Tuesday, according to authorities. The freeway is closed at Massachusetts Avenue and traffic is being diverted.

Personnel attempted CPR on the man, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Brian Pennings of the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities are on scene managing traffic and waiting for the coroner to arrive. It is not known when the freeway will reopen.
