Authorities Want to Take Back Your Drugs

The San Diego County Sheriff’s and a number of local organizations are again host a Prescription/Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 26.

A majority of teens say they get drugs from their family's medicine cabinets or from the bathrooms of  friends, according to information provided by Sheriff’s officials.

All over the counter and prescription medications will be taken, no questions asked. Sharps and needles will not be accepted, officials said.

Several locations across the region hold drug take back events. Hundreds of pounds in drugs are collected, officials have said following past event.

Many of the narcotics, depressants, and stimulants manufactured for legitimate medical use are subject to abuse and have, therefore, been brought under legal control, according to officials with the DEA’s Office of Diversion Control.

According to the DEA, more than 242,000 pounds of prescription drugs for safe were turned in at some 4,000 sites in all 50 states during the first Take Back event disposal in October of 2010.
