Body Found at Scripps Pier ID'd as Spring Valley Woman, 19

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office did not release a cause of death.

A 19-year-old Spring Valley woman was publicly identified Sunday as the person found dead off the Scripps Pier Saturday.

Alyssa Collette Pezzoli was spotted lifeless in the Pacific Ocean, about 100 yards northwest of the tip of the pier, and reported to lifeguards about 12:20 p.m. Saturday.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office released her name today, but did not specify a cause of death.

UC San Diego campus police are handling the death investigation, and have not indicated how the death may have happened.

On Saturday, city lifeguard officials said it was unclear how long the body had been in the water. Lifeguards recovered the corpse and brought it to the beach at the base of the pier Saturday afternoon.

UCSD police were summoned for the investigation into Pezzoli's death, the Medical Examiner's Office reported, but it was not clear today if the campus police remain in charge of the death investigation.
