UPDATE: Cab Driver Shot and Killed Sunday Morning Identified

Authorities say the victim is Jalaludin Hamrah, 39.

The taxi driver shot and killed early Sunday morning has been identified as 39-year-old Jalaludin Hamrah, a cab driver for the Main Cab Co., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Hamrah was found at 3:48 a.m. after his cab was involved in a rollover crash on the 3400 block of Main Street, behind the Lemon Grove trolley depot. Authorities say Hamrah rolled his vehicle as a result of being shot. Rescue workers began life-saving efforts on the taxi driver, but he died at the scene.

Hamrah worked for the Main Cab Co. and was known to frequent the El Cajon and Lakeside areas, including the Barona Casino.

Homicide investigators are asking the public for help to identify a suspect and motive for the crime.

The driver of a taxi cab that was involved in a rollover crash on Main Street early Sunday morning died at the scene after being removed from the wreckage by members of the Lemon Grove Fire Department, who noticed an apparent gunshot wound on the man’s upper body, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The rollover was reported at 3:48 a.m. and a deputy on patrol spotted the cab around the same time at 3445 Main St., according to sheriff’s Lt. Larry Nesbit. The deputy called for paramedics and made contact with the driver.

Paramedics began life-saving efforts on the driver, but he died at the scene. As they rendered medical aid they observed what appeared to be a bullet wound, according to Nesbit. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Department were requested and responded to the scene.

A cause and manner of death have not been determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the man’s name has not been released. The case is being treated as a homicide and investigators from the , homicide detail and crime lab are participating in the investigation.
