Update: No Injuries Reported in Car-to-Car Freeway Shooting in Lemon Grove

The driver and a passenger in his car heard several gunshots around 3:30 a.m., CHP said.

An unidentified assailant in a moving car opened fire on another vehicle in Lemon Grove early Thursday, damaging it but causing no injuries, authorities reported.

The car-to-car shooting on eastbound state Route 94 was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The targeted motorist told investigators he was on his way to his San Diego home when a dark-colored sedan pulled up next to his Ford Five Hundred near Federal Boulevard, said CHP public affairs Officer Brian Pennings.

The driver and a passenger in his car then heard several gunshots, Pennings said.

He proceeded to drop off his companion and continued to his own home before reporting the incident.

Investigating officers found what appeared to be two bullet holes on the driver’s side of the Ford, Pennings said.

The man had no detailed description of the car the shots came from or the driver of it. No suspects were arrested or identified by late afternoon,
according to Pennings.

The exact time of the shooting was unclear, the CHP spokesman said.
