Fires Erupt Off SR-125 Freeway, Halt Traffic

There were two small "spot fires" along State Route 125 northbound between State Route 94 and Interstate 8 in La Mesa early Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fires, one 15 feet in diameter and the other 100 square feet, burned on the right side of the highway, were reported at 4:49 a.m. and were put out shortly around 5:10 a.m., said officer Robert Catano.

Two lanes of traffic were temporarily closed as a Heartland Fire District crew extinguished the fires.
