Five Arrests at Checkpoint on Broadway

Sheriff's deputies conducted a DUI-driver's license checkpoint Friday night.

A checkpoint staffed by sheriff’s deputies in Lemon Grove Friday night resulted in five drivers arrested for suspicion of DUI and almost 30 vehicles impounded, according to Sgt. Herbert Taft.

The checkpoint operated from 8 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. near the 7900 block of Broadway. The approximately 20 deputies working the checkpoint contacted 789 drivers, checking driver’s licenses and looking for signs of impairment, according to Taft. Deputies directed 58 vehicles to a secondary-inspection area.

Along with the five arrests, 20 citations were issued for driving with a suspended or revoked license, or having no license at all, according to a sheriff’s report. Deputies impounded 28 vehicles at the checkpoint, which was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
