Lemon Grove Crews Help Quell Grass Blaze

The fire was reported underneath bridges at interstate 8 and Route 125 shortly before 5 p.m.

Lemon Grove crews helped make quick work of a fire most likely started by transients trying to keep warm Monday, a Heartland fire dispather said.

The grass fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. underneath bridges at the interchange of Interstate 8 with State Route 125, the dispatcher said.

"I think it was like transients that were burning insulation off some wiring," said the dispatcher, who declined to give his name.

Some six firefighters put out the flames within as many minutes, the dispatcher said.
