Lemon Grove Man Killed After Car Veers Off Freeway, Hits Tree

The 30-year-old might have been speeding before he lost control, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 30-year-old Lemon Grove man was killed late Saturday night after his car went down a steep embankment off of Interstate 8 in El Cajon and hit a tree, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Ismael Perez Chavez, who lives with roommates in Lemon Grove, was driving a silver sedan west of Mollison Avenue on I-8 around 11:40 p.m. Saturday when he went off of the road.

"His vehicle was witnessed to be traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control. His vehicle veered across traffic lanes and left the highway down a steep embankment and struck a large tree," according to a press release from the Medical Examiner.

"CHP officers and El Cajon Fire personnel responded and confirmed his death at the scene without resuscitative efforts due to obvious fatal trauma."
