Update: 3 Deaths, 99 DUI Arrests on County Highways Since Wednesday

The CHP says arrests are slightly up from last year's Thanksgiving holiday, as of early Sunday morning.

Three people were killed on the roadways of San Diego County during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and 99 were arrested for suspicion of DUI, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Those numbers are up slightly from the same time period in 2010, beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m. through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Last year, 94 drivers were arrested for DUI and there were no fatalities during the four-day span in the county, according to the CHP.

In Orange County, the CHP made 82 DUI arrests, up sharply from 2010 when 67 arrests were made during the same time period. One fatality was reported.

Statewide, there were 32 fatalities and 1,475 arrests for suspicion of DUI, according to the CHP. One bicyclist and one pedestrian were also killed. During last year’s Thanksgiving weekend there were 21 fatalities and 1,546 DUI arrests in California.

The number of DUI arrests reflects only those made by CHP officers, while the number of fatalities is for all law enforcement agencies.
