One Victim of La Mesa Freeway Shooting Dies
The weekend vehicle-to-vehicle shooting took place on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8 near state Route 125.
One of the two men wounded in a weekend vehicle-to- vehicle shooting on Interstate 8 in La Mesa later died in a hospital, authorities said today.
Both men were apparently fired upon by the occupants of another vehicle in the freeway's eastbound lanes near the state Route 125 overpass early Sunday, said La Mesa police Lt. Matt Nicholass.
The California Highway Patrol received calls about 3:40 a.m. about a vehicle on its side and a person lying in the roadway. Sharp Grossmont Hospital security officers called La Mesa police a few minutes later to report two men suffering from gunshot wounds had showed up in the emergency room, according to Nicholass.
Both men were later taken to another hospital due to the seriousness of their injuries, NBC7 reported.
One man suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was not expected to survive, Nicholass said. The man, Xusha Brown Jr., 22, died about 6:45 p.m. Sunday at Sharp Memorial Hospital, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office.
The other victim was shot in his left arm and was in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.
La Mesa police and the CHP were investigating. A description of the suspects or their vehicle was not released.
