2 Arrested After Home Invasion Robbery; 1 Person Shot During Incident

A father and son are the alleged assailants.

Two men were arrested after a shooting that left a person in critical condition after a home invasion robbery in Lemon Grove on Sunday night.

The incident started with a report of a hot prowl shortly after 10 p.m. in the 1800 block of Bakersfield Street, San Diego County Sheriff's Department Sgt. David Pocklington said in a statement.

Dispatchers were told seconds later that a victim had been shot during the incident, he said, and witnesses told deputies two men with firearms were involved in the incident.

Before they fled the scene, one of the witnesses told deputies they managed to puncture a tire on the alleged getaway vehicle and an officer reported hearing from a distance the sound of a vehicle driving on a flat tire.

After the information was broadcast to responding deputies, they found a vehicle with a flat tire at Lemon Grove Avenue and Broadway, surrounded it with guns drawn and ordered the occupants out, Pocklington said.

Two males were taken into custody without incident and identified by witnesses as the assailants, authorities said.

The suspects were identified as a father and his son, Gregory Alan Jewell, 49, and Joshua Alan Wineski, 22.

The victim in the incident was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, Pocklington said.

Lemon Grove station deputies are continuing their investigation into the incident and say that the initial reports are that robbery was the motive.
