Police Arrest Lemon Grove Man After Chase, Crash

The chase went through the streets of La Mesa and Highway 94 before crashing in Lemon Grove.

A Lemon Grove man is in custody after leading La Mesa police on a short chase Wednesday night that ended in crash in Lemon Grove, authorities said.

Matthew Bailey, 29, was booked into county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony evading arrest, Sgt. Katy Lynch of the La Mesa police said.

The chase started at 9:35 p.m. after Bailey, who was driving a white Dodge Charger, failed to yield at a stop sign, Lynch said. The suspect then led police on chase through residential streets in La Mesa, then briefly on State Route 94, ultimately crashing in 7800 block of Central Avenue in Lemon Grove, Lynch said.

For a brief moment, the suspect turned off his headlights and ran several stop signs, she said.

No one was injured in the crash.
