Suicidal Man Arrested After Standoff on SR 94 Bridge

The man is in custody after holding authorities at bay overnight, slowing traffic for hours.

A man on a bridge over state Route 94 near downtown San Diego held up traffic for a second day today before finally being arrested about 9 a.m.

The man was reported on a ledge of the 30th Street bridge over eastbound lanes just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several lanes of state Route 94 were closed in the area during Tuesday's evening commute.

Early today, the CHP reopened most lanes in time for the morning commute, but the standoff still slowed traffic.

Police made no other information immediately available as to how the man was taken into custody. The man could be booked for a crime or be put on an 72-hour psychiatric hold.
