Teens Suspected in Violent Assault

Two teens suspected of knocking a man down to get his phone were arrested in Spring Valley overnight.

A 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old juvenile were arrested in Spring Valley on suspicion of knocking a man to the ground while stealing his cell phone in La Mesa early today, police said.

The robbery occurred while the victim was walking in the 7900 block of University Avenue around 12:20 a.m., according to La Mesa police.

The victim and witnesses provided investigators with the license plate number of the robbers' getaway vehicle and officers later found the vehicle parked at a Spring Valley apartment complex in the 8700 block of Troy Street, police said in a statement.

With help from sheriff's deputies, police took the suspected robbers into custody and recovered the victim's cell phone, police said.

Police identified one suspect as Ivetta Frost, 19, of Spring Valley. Her alleged accomplice was not identified but only described as a 17-year-old.

Both were arrested on suspicion of robbery, with the woman being booked into the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility and the teen into Juvenile Hall.
