Trial Date Set for Man Charged with Beating Couple in Lemon Grove

Wyatt Kirk Bradley, 21, was arrested in November on suspicion of beating a couple collecting cardboard scraps behind Lemon Grove businesses along Broadway.

A man charged with assaulting a couple behind a Lemon Grove strip mall is to go to trial April 15.

Wyatt Kirk Bradley, 21, appeared in the El Cajon branch of the San Diego County Superior Court Thursday.  A readiness hearing has been set for March 26 to determine if the trial can move forward in April, said Steve Walker, a San Diego County District Attorney's office.

Bradley, a Mount Hope resident, was arrested in November on suspicion of assaulting a 63-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife.  The couple was collecting scrap cardboard in th 7000 block of Broadway "to help make ends meet" when Bradley approached them, reported City News Service.

After Bradley talk to the couple and gave them his first name, he allegedly began beating the pair, knocking both to the ground several times, authorities said.

The defendant allegedly attempted to steal the couple's late model Ford truck, but after he failed to get it started, Bradley took off on foot.

Based on a description and his first name, San Diego County sheriff's investigators found Bradley the day after the attack and arrested him.

He was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of assault, robbery, elder abuse, and attempted carjacking. He remains in custody without bail.
