Weekly Crime Report

Man arrested following hit-and-run in the 8300 block of Broadway.

Items of note from the desk of the Lemon Grove station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department as of May 23, 2011:

  • A 24-year-old man was arrested on a misdemeanor hit-and-run allegation on the evening of May 12 in the 8300 block of Broadway, according to records at the Lemon Grove  station of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. In addition to hit-and-run, Peter Ray was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of drunken driving and driving without a valid license.
  • A 38-year-old man was arrested after deputies were called to investigate a report of a suspicious person on the evening of May 17 in the 8100 block of Broadway. Timothy Lopez was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
  • Two women were arrested on outstanding warrants while a deputy was on foot patrol in the 7900 block of North Avenue on the afternoon of May 18. The suspects were identified as Kara Hamilton, 20, and Salina Godfrey, 25. They were booked on the warrants at Las Colinas women's jail in Santee. The nature of the warrants was not detailed.
  • A 28-year-old man was arrested on a drug allegation after being stopped in the 3200 block of Main Street on the evening of May 19. Frederick Rice was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of two felonies, resisting arrest and possessing drugs. In addition, he faces an allegation of being under the influence of drugs.
  • Frank Mejia, 19, was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant after being stopped at Skyline and Alton Drives on the afternoon of May 20. The nature of the warrant was not detailed in the report. He was booked into  County Jail in downtown San Diego.
  • Rasheed Shabazz, 25, was arrested on a misdemeanor drug allegation after a citizen called for assistance in the 1700 block of San Altos Place on the morning of May 21.
  • Evelyn Ballou, 45, was arrested on drug allegations after being stopped in the 7900 block of North Avenue on the afternoon of May 21. She was booked into Las Colinas women's jail in Santee on suspicion of possessing narcotics, a felony, and misdemeanor being under the influence of drugs.
  • A 37-year-old man was arrested following a battery complaint in the 2100 block of Eldora Street shortly after midnight on May 22. Erick Whitespeare was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego after the arrest. The victim in the case sustained a minor injury, according to a report.
  • A 35-year-old man was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana possession following a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Lemon Grove Avenue on the afternoon of May 15. Alvin Hill was booked on suspicion of possessing more than 28.5 grams of marijuana, transporting that amount of marijuana, displaying false registration on his vehicle and driving on a suspended license with a prior drunken driving conviction.
  • Pedro Valencia, 42, was arrested following a traffic stop on the afternoon of May 15. The stop was reported at Canton Drive and Angelus Avenue, according to a report. He was booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on an outstanding arrest warrant, as well as suspicion of drunken driving and driving on a suspended license.
  • A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing after refusing to leave Lemon Grove city property on the morning of May 5. Dale Robison was arrested on an additional allegation of disorderly conduct. He was cited on the allegations and released, according to a  report.
  • Two women were arrested after allegedly attempting to steal goods from the Home Depot in the 7500 block of Broadway on the afternoon of May 12. Tameka Cutts, 38, and Justina Barber, 42, were arrested on suspicion of felony burglary, conspiracy and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. The recovered items were valued at $116.
  • Jesse Glenn, 27, was arrested on a felony parole violation in the 3400 block of Main Street on the afternoon of May 12. The nature of the violation was not detailed in the report.
  • Julio Pecina, 40, was arrested on suspicion of selling alcohol to a minor. The offense was reported on the evening of May 12 in the 1400 block of Skyline Drive. The offense is a misdemeanor, according to a report. Matsu Vaughn, 38, was arrested on the same offense in the  1800 block of Massachusetts Avenue, according to another report.
  • Two men were arrested on felony assault allegations in the 7200 block of Broadway shortly after midnight on May 13. Carlos Medina, 26, and Jose Medina, 23, were  both booked into County Jail in downtown San Diego on assault with a deadly weapon allegations. Jose Medina was booked on suspicion of an additional felony count of negligent discharge of a firearm. One male victim reported a minor injury in the incident. No other injuries were reported.
  • A stolen vehicle was recovered in the 1500 block of 69th Street on the afternoon of May 13. The blue pickup was recovered without incident, according to a report. It had been reported stolen from another jurisdiction.
  • Three bicycles were reported stolen in the 2500 block of Crestline Drive on the morning of May 14. The 34-year-old victim valued the bicycles at $860. The most valuable bike listed was a white Ero Mega valued at $600. No suspect information was listed.
  • A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery after authorities received a complaint in the 3500 block of Grove Street during the early morning hours of May 15. Two victims were allegedly assaulted. George White was booked into County Jail on a felony complaint, along with a misdemeanor battery.
  • Osvaldo Becerra, 32, was arrested on a felony after allegedly assaulting an unidentified victim in the 2300 block of Peppermint Lane on the evening of May 15. The victim sustained a minor injury. Becerra was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego.
  • Carl Rices, 47, was arrested at Broadway and Lemon Grove Avenue following a traffic stop. He was booked into the County Jail in downtown San Diego on suspicion of driving on a suspended license.

Vehicle burglaries:

  • 6700 block of San Miguel Avenue on the morning of May 15. Items stolen were valued at $251. There was $150 worth of vandalism reported.

  • 7100 block of Westview Place on the morning of May 13. Damage was reported at $1,200.

Residential burglaries, hot prowls, or grand theft from buildings (items
valued at $400 ):

  • 2300 block of Lawton Drive on the morning of May 7.
