Last Chance to Clear Your SBX Toll Ticket With a Reduced Fine

SANDAG's Clean Slate incentive program could decrease penalty by as much as 80 percent.

Time is running out to settle unpaid South Bay Expressway toll fines at a reduced rate through a clean slate incentive offered by SANDAG. The program ends Thursday, Aug. 15.

The monthlong program was aimed at encouraging some 58,000 South Bay Expressway drivers with outstanding toll violations to pay up and wipe the slate clean at a deep discount—about 80 percent in some cases with penalties reduced to around $20, down from as much as $100. Violators must pay the toll fee in addition to the fine.

To date, about 11,000 violations have been resolved through the program, according to SANDAG.

Failure to pay violations can result in a vehicle registration hold being placed at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Motorists with DMV holds may be cited or fined by the California Highway Patrol for driving with an expired license plate.

In addition to DMV holds, those with outstanding toll violations will be referred to a collections agency and may see the toll and penalty amounts deducted from their income tax refunds.

The Clean Slate program ends Thursday, Aug. 15. Payments can be made at SBXCleanSlate.com, by calling (619) 661-7070 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or in person at the South Bay Expressway headquarters at 1129 La Media Road, between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
