Lemon Grove School Board Approves Sack Lunch Program

The federally funded program is expected to serve as many as 17,500 meals over the summer.

A brown bag may provide as many as 500 children each weekday with access to a much-needed lunch during the summer months while school is recessed.

The no-cost summer lunch program was approved unanimously by the governing board of the Lemon Grove School District at Tuesday night’s meeting. The federally funded program is free to all children in the community up to age 18, and will be available at five sites around town starting June 27. The same meal will be offered at low cost to adults at three of the sites.

The 35-day program is expected to provide 500 meals each weekday through Aug. 12, for a total of 17,500 meals over the summer. The program is funded through the USDA Seamless Summer Feeding Program.

Typically, the sack lunch will consist of a sandwich, fruit, vegetable and milk.

Nothing is needed to qualify, though participants are required to eat the meal at the site where it is served. Activities are planned at some of the sites, and meals will be served on a first come, first served basis.

Here’s where you can find lunches being served, Monday through Friday:

Nice if you can actually pass such a bill but we are dealing with politicians who cherish the powerRead More they have attained rising to the top. In actuality this has "A Snowballs Chance In Hell" of passing, but kudos for the effort.
