Town Hall to Focus on Marriage Equality

Congresswoman Susan Davis, who serves Lemon Grove, will co-host a town hall that will include members of San Diego's LGBT community.

A Marriage Equality Town Hall hosted by Congresswoman Susan Davis, who serves Lemon Grove, Majority Leader Toni Atkins, and Council President Todd Gloria is scheduled for Tuesday.

Members from the San Diego LGBT Community Center, San Diego LGBT Pride, and the American Constitution Society are expected to participate.

The town Hall is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center, 3909 Centre St. in San Diego expected to addresses the issue of federal benefits and taxes for same-sex marriages, according to the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News. An RSVP is not necessary.

“With the recent Supreme Court decision striking down the federal benefits section of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), many questions are being raised on how federal benefits and tax issues will apply to married same-sex couples,” according to the Gay and Lesbian news.

Experts will speak on tax, immigration and constitution law to explain changes in the law and answer questions, according to the publication.
