The Lemon Grove School District has a full day of celebrations planned Saturday as Vista La Mesa Academy hosts the annual Parents United event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open its new field and track, and a fall festival with activities for the whole family.

The day kicks off with a free community breakfast from 9 to 9:30 a.m., followed by two hours of training seminars for parents. Childcare for kids ages 4 to 12 will be provided from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Just before noon, a ribbon-cutting ceremony by district officials will christen the K-8 grade school’s upgraded athletic field, which features improvements such as a new sod field, running track, and par course area, new and resurfaced asphalt, two more basketball hoops, and a drinking fountain funded by Proposition W school bond monies.
