What's Your Story? Share It at 'History Alive at 35'

The audience will be the star when the Lemon Grove Historical Society launches the 35th season of History Alive, the much-loved series showcasing the life and times of Lemon Grove and its broad connections to American history.

Oral histories are why History Alive is so popular and why the Historical Society's running theme is “your story begins at home.”

Audience members will each give a three-minute anecdote related to life in Lemon Grove. The stories might involve school days, work, ranching and gardening, civic events, family life (cooking, raising kids, fixing your house, etc.), folklore, public life, clubs, churches, firefighting, military service, economics and jobs, neighborly interaction—anything and everything that can be related in front of a general audience that sheds light on the world of our town is welcome.

Here are some examples: The day the Danielson family hauled its swimming pool up Sweetwater Road.  The night all the chickens got out at the Murphys'. Your first day of school and why it was memorable. A nervous bride cooked a family Thanksgiving dinner for 25—only it never cooked. The day impetigo struck an entire classroom. Your first paper route—back when both existed. And the list goes on!

The Historical Society will videotape your anecdotes on Sept. 6 for its video archive and asks only that your stories be free of unkind comments and bad language (but you know that already).
