Golden Avenue School PTA Alums Planning Reunion

The informal gathering will be at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Claim Jumper in La Mesa.

Parents of Golden Avenue School alumni are planning a reunion.

Jan Davis, one of the parents involved in effort, said the informal get together is to reunite PTA moms from the late 1970s to around 1990 and others.

The idea for the event started when Davis, Carol (Beard) Rhome, and JoAnn Cando ran into one another in Costco recently, Davis said.

"We were PTA moms from the late 70s till around 1990 at Golden Avenue School," she said. "Our kids are all in the late 30s and early 40s now, so you can see how long it has been! Some of us even have grandkids there now."

Davis said that they started to ask one another if they had seen this or that person, so they decided to use Facebook to reach out and set up a reunion.

The group plans to gather at the Claim Jumper restaurant in La Mesa, 5500 Grossmont Center Drive, at 5 p.m. Thursday.

"We  decided to include teachers, staff and 'kids,' too," she said.

The event will be no-host, so everyone who attends will pay for their own food and drinks. No RSVP is required.

"Just show up," Davis said. "We are hoping to get the word out to as many people, as we can. Kind of like a high school reunion, but more fun!"
