Kiwanis Award $18,000 in Student Scholarships

Two students received top awards of $3,000 each; honorees were from Helix, Chaparral and Grossmont.

The Kiwanis Club of La Mesa offered up $18,000 in college scholarships to 
graduating seniors at Grossmont, Helix and Chaparral high schools, the group announced.

Awards ranged from $500-$3000.

Grossmont High’s Mariyah Raza and Helix High's Mestun Merhawi received the highest amounts, $3,000, while several others were honored with $1,000 scholarships.

Grossmont's $1000 winners are: Jamie Kautzman, Julia Naranjo, Oswals Munoz and Austin Swisher.

Helix's $1000 winners are: Keluin Chang, Alisha Dominelli, Ismail Ibraham and Kaley Jenkins. 

At Chaparral, $500 Chubby Sykes Memorial awards went to Alexandra Acevedo, Phillip Brodin, Hayley Combs, Joshua Meda, Laura Noriega, Michael Opfer, Morgan Steinpreis and Ben Story.
